Lydia Olson

Technical Specialist

Lydia grew up in the Greater Boston Area and found her love of the environment while volunteering as a water monitor with the Mystic River Watershed Association in high school. She continued her passion in college, receiving a degree in Environmental Science with a minor in Chemistry from Franklin & Marshall College in Pennsylvania and completing a thesis in geochemistry of estuarine systems. She then went on to obtain a Master’s degree in Applied and Environmental Geosciences, with a specialization in Environmental Chemistry and Microbiology, from the Eberhard Karls Universitaet Tuebingen in Germany. Other previous work experience includes soil remediation, organic farming and food systems, climate change modeling, and hazardous waste regulation and disposal. Lydia brings her skills in scientific analysis and presentation to the Technical Specialist position where she will oversee and implement Mass Rivers’ technical programming to protect river flow and water quality statewide.
