🚨ACTION ALERT- Protect Rivers and Water Supplies during Drought

Writer: Anna RenkertAnna Renkert

Updated: Mar 19

The Drought Bill (H1003/S586) is Mass Rivers' top priority for the 2025-2026 legislative session that started in January. The bill will modernize drought management in Massachusetts, and help keep Massachusetts' water supplies and rivers healthy in a changing climate.

Last session, the Drought Bill advanced further than it ever has, passing the Senate.

📣 Now, we need your help: Take 5 minutes to send two emails asking your state legislators to cosponsor the Drought Bill.

1. Find your legislators

2. Send them an email supporting stronger drought management!

  1. Subject Line (or add your own flair!): Please cosponsor the drought bill (H1003/S586) for stronger drought preparedness

  2. Copy and paste this message - add what climate impacts you've been seeing locally, or why your local river matters to you.

“Dear Representative,

My name is [Insert Name] and I am your constituent from [town] (Add any affiliations here too). I urge you to cosponsor the drought bill (H1003/S586) which is a top priority for me and my community. It will protect our rivers, water supply, and wildlife from the harmful effects of drought.

Massachusetts' drought response is a confusing patchwork of conservation measures which limits effectiveness and puts our water supplies, agriculture, and ecosystems at risk. Droughts are becoming longer and more severe, threatening our rivers, drinking water, farms, and fisheries. We need a coordinated response that ensures water savings when our rivers and water supplies need it most.

Massachusetts must modernize its drought response. Please support this bill by cosponsoring it to protect our water, economy, and environment.

Thank you for protecting the Commonwealth's environment.

Sincerely,

[Your Name]

[Your Address]

[Your Organization, if applicable]"

THANK YOU FOR BEING A RIVER ADVOCATE
