About the event
NASA’s Surface Water and Ocean Topography (SWOT) satellite mission is a groundbreaking advancement in hydrological science, offering unprecedented capabilities to monitor and understand rivers, lakes, and the Earth’s water cycle. Professor Kostas Andreadis of UMass Amherst will show us how SWOT’s high-resolution measurements of water surface elevations and river widths help estimate river discharge as well as changes in river and lake storage. He will also present early results from the first phase of the mission’s orbit. This presentation will showcase the transformative potential of SWOT as an exciting, new satellite technology that will help us more clearly understand Earth’s water systems.
